What We Believe

Heart Home Foundations

We believe what the church has believed from its early foundations. These beliefs can be found in the Apostles' Creed and the Nicene Creed.

  • I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

    Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

And born of the Virgin Mary.

    He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

Was crucified, died, and was buried.

    He descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again.

    He ascended into heaven,

And is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

    The holy catholic Church,

    The communion of saints,

    The forgiveness of sins,

    The resurrection of the body,

    And the life everlasting. Amen.

  • We believe in one God,

    the Father, the Almighty,

    maker of heaven and earth,

of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,

    the only Son of God,

    eternally begotten of the Father,

God from God, Light from Light,

    true God from true God,

    begotten, not made,

of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation

    he came down from heaven:

by the power of the Holy Spirit

he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,

    and was made man.

    For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered death and was buried.

On the third day he rose again

    in accordance with the Scriptures;

    he ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,

and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,

who proceeds from the Father and the Son.

With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified.

He has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.

We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.

We look for the resurrection of the dead,

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

  • The Bible presents the gospel as a message for all to come and gather, and everyone has a seat at the table. At Heart Home, we believe that "Creating communities where the heart of God is home, where the humble and the wise learn to shepherd those on the path behind them, where trusting strugglers lock arms with others as together they journey on” (Dr. Larry Crabb).

Community is not about having it all together to belong, but about already and always belonging within a family that walks alongside each other in any and every season as we journey on in Jesus.

We are a fully-inclusive community who does not discriminate based on gender, religious background or sexual orientation. As a community we celebrate theological and political diversity.

  • We believe that the Bible is a connection between divine and human, God and humanity. The Bible is full of history, poetry, pain, joy, loss, redemption, salvation, and hope.

We also believe that the Bible welcomes wrestling with doubt. The Bible does not require us to check our questions, curiosity, and skepticism at the door. Instead, we are invited into the Bible’s greater story that reveals God’s heart for humanity.

We also believe that as we read and study God’s Word together, its pages are inspired by God. As we read in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, God’s Word sustains us, strengthens us, guides us, inspires us, and transforms us more and more into God’s likeness.

“Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good” (2 Timothy 3:16-17, CEB).

  • We believe that worship is more than an act of singing songs. Worship is an expression of a community that is connected with its Creator.

  • We believe that leadership in the church is best carried out through diversity of thought, experience, backgrounds, race and gender. We believe that we are the best as a community when we represent the fullness of God’s creation in our membership as well as our leadership
